Manila, the capital and main port of the Philippines, is the political, economical, educational and cultural center of the Philippines.
It is located on the Manila Gulf and the western coast of Pasig River which is in the southwest of Luzon Island, occupying an area of 39 square kilometers with a population of over 2,000,000.

Located in tropical rain forest climate district, Manila has high temperature and rainfalls all the year round. The rainy season lasts from June to October, while the dry season from November to May in the next year. People enjoy the most comfortable weather in the period from November to February in the next year, of which the average temperature is 25℃. From April to May is the height of summer with an average temperature of 28℃—32℃. The annual average temperature is approximately 26℃.

Metro Manila (Manila’s Metropolitan Area) includes Manila City, Quezon, Pasay, and 13 cities around, covering an area of more than 630 square kilometers, with a population of over 8,000,000, is one of the biggest metropolitan areas in Asia.

Manufacturing is the most important industrial department in the Philippines, includes mainly secondary production industries of primary commodities such as sugar refining, coconut oil, cigarette, food, sawmilling, papermaking and so on. In addition, there are spinning, cement, leather manufacture, rubber, medicine, automotive mount, oil processing, etc. Manila is famous for its beautiful natural views and numerous places of great interest with a blameless complementary infrastructure satisfying the need of tourism.

In November, 1982, Manila and Guangzhou established the friendly relationship as Sister Cities.

Myor of Guangzhou, Liang Lingguang and mayor of Manila, Bhagat Singh as well as viceroy of Metro Manila, Madam Marcos signed an agreement on establishing a friendly relationship between Guangzhou and Manila as sister cities.

May 28th-30th, 2006
At the invitation of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Roger Lane,subprefect of the Kaka Countyin in Cebu Province of the Philippines, leading a delegation of 12 people, carried out a friendly visit to Guangzhou. On the morning of May 29th, the delegation inspected Huadu Weihan Shoemaking Group and communicted friendly with Huadu Business Association as well as Huadu Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau.

July 5th – 8th, 2006
Chen Chuanyu, the deputy-director of Committees of people's congress of Guangzhou, leading the delegation of Guangzhou Municipal Government as well as delegation of economic and trade, went to Manila so as to start “ the Guangzhou - Southeast Asia sister cities’ economic and trade activities”.Along with the local chamber of commerce,the delegations held a Guangzhou – Manila economic and trade fair. Corporations of Guangzhou coming from varieties of fields such as medicine, machine, electrical appliance as well as import and export trade in company with the business circles of Manila communicated with each other face to face,which has deepened mutual acquaintance between the two cities, explored the cooperation of both sides and contributed to the furtherance of the economy and trade contacts between this two places.This activity has tremendously accelerated the essentiality communication as sister cities in addition to the economy and trade contacts between Manila and Guangzhou, which, provides the channels and platforms for the corporations of Guangzhou to expand the market of Southest Asia.

August 29th to September 4th ,2006
Organized by the Manila – Guangzhou Association for Friendship, the entrepreneurs delegation from Manila, Philippines, paid a visit to Guangzhou. Moreover, they participated in the 2006 Guangzhou Fair, the interview and junketing which were held by the Guangzhou Municipal Government as well as the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Fair and other related activities. Leaders who come from the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Economic and Technological Cooperation Office together with Overseas Chinese affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government met some of the representatives of the delegation respectively and feasted them to extend welcome. Besides,the delegation also visited Shaoguan City to learn about the investigation environment and trade situation on Sep 3rd and 4th.

At the invitation of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, the delegation of Manila took part in the 2007 Guangzhou Fair.And each sister cities’ delegation attended the meeting and banquet held by Guangzhou Government at Dongfang Hotel on the evening of Agust 30th , they were also present at the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Faire held on Sep 1st.
