Bari
 

Bari, the primary port leading to Balkan Peninsula and Eastern Mediterranean, is located in the southeast of Italy and standing on the fertile plain which is on the verge of Adriatic. It is the capital of Puglia (also named “Apulia”) as well as the local economic and cultural center with a population of more than 600,000.

It divides into three main parts, namely, the ancient district, the new district and the industrial district. The ledge of coast which spaces out both the old and new harbor districts belongs to the old one. Since 1813, the new district has been constructed to be a modern district according to the regular checkerboard pattern.

Located in the down country, with an altitude of 12 meters, Bari owns a temperate climate whose average temperature in January is 10.3℃ and 25.2℃ in July. It rains for 75 days annually with an average rainfall of 529 millimeters.

The industries of Bari mainly includes food processing, petrochemical engineering, spinning, printing, building materials, rubber products, electrical machinery, auto-parts, metal processing and so on. The wholesale and retail industry of Bari prospers benefitting from its flourishing industry. 斯帕拉诺and阿尔吉罗 are famous as the main shopping streets in Bari. Every year, the commercial tax of local government is approximately 500 million liras( roughly equal to 340.000 dollars).

On November, 1986, Bari and Guangzhou established a friendly relationship as Sister Cities.

 

【Development History】


On November 12, 1986, Mr. Zhu Shenlin, Mayor of Guangzhou, and Mayor of Barrie, signed the agreement of establishing sister city relationship.

In July 1997, Mr. Huang Weining, Director General of Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress paid a visit to Italy and called on Barrie Parliament.


In March 1998, Mayor of Barrie visited Guangzhou and the attended the opening ceremony of Italy Commodity Showroom in the Guangzhou Free Trade Zone.


In March 1998, leaders from Guangzhou Municipal Government attended the Italy Commodity Showroom in Guangzhou Free Trade Zone.


In November 1998, Mr. Lin Shenlin, mayor of Guangzhou, led a delegation to Barrie, Italy.

In January 1999, Mr. Martelli, Deputy Minister of Italy Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a government delegation and Barrie goodwill mission to Guangzhou.

In June 2005, Mr. Li Guorong, assistant Counsel of Foreign Trade &Economic Cooperation Bureau led a delegation to attend China Business Seminar held in Barrie, Italy.

From 12 and 14 March, 2008, Mr. Raffaele Sannicandroa, Deputy Mayor of Barrie, attended the Guangzhou Sister Cities Joint Meeting.

 

Mr. Zhu Shenlin, Mayor of Guangzhou, and Mayor of Barrie, signed the agreement of establishing sister city relationship on November 12, 1986.
 
Mr. Huang Weining, Director General of Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress paid a visit to Italy and made an official call on Barrie Parliament in July 1997.

Assistant Counsel of Foreign Trade &Economic Cooperation Bureau Li Guorong led delegation of three to attend China Business Seminar held in Barrie, Italy in June 2005.
 

At the invitation of Guangzhou government, Deputy Mayor of Barrie attended the Joint Conference of Guangzhou International Sister City Director General of Foreign Affair Office and Chairman of Friendship Association and visited Guangzhou development zone and Zhujiang New Town to study the social and economic development situation of Guangzhou comprehensively during March 12 and 14, 2008.
