Los Angeles
 

Located in the south to the California, American, Los Angeles faces north to the Saint Gabriel Mountains, and southeast to the Santa Ana Mountains.  The Pacific Ocean is west to Los Angeles and the Los Angeles River, Saint Gabriel River and Saint Ana River are running within the city.  Los Angeles is also the most important economic center in the America.

It is dry and plenty of sunshine all the year round in Los Angeles with the average annual duration of sunshine of 325 days and no frost.  The average temperature amounts to 12.5 ℃ with the lowest 7 ℃ in January, and that of July and August amounts to 20.5 ℃ due to sea wind.  The annual average rainfall is 319 ml with average raining days of 35 days, mainly in winter.

Los Angeles covers an area of 1,464 square meters with a population of 35,000,000.  Greater Los Angeles, the biggest urban circle in the America next to New York, consists of Los Angeles, part of Oran and Ventura, and over 80 towns such as Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Long Beach, covering 10,567 square kilometers with a population of more than 80,000,000.

Aircraft industry, motor industry and movie industry are all earliest and most significant traditional industries in Los Angeles.  Other traditional industries such as shipbuilding, steel, building, oil and chemical industries also play a role in the USA.

California is the center of high technology in the world and Los Angeles is the most significant center of high technology in California with the highest developing rate in high tech industries.  Its amount of labs and contribution of scientists are No. 2 in America, next to New York and above Chicago and Philadelphia.  It owns the largest amount of scientists and engineers on scientific study and development in America.  Los Angeles is abundant in its tourist resources and there are over 219 parks and lots of places of entertainment.

In December, 1981, Los Angeles and Guangzhou Municipality became sister cities.

On October 13th 2006, Mr. Zhang Guangning, Mayor of Guangzhou, attended the ceremony in celebration of 25th Anniversary of the Twinning between Guangzhou and Los Angeles, as well as the Welcoming Banquet in honor of Mr. Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles, United States.
