Bangkok is the capital and largest city of Thailand, as well as the domestic political, economic, cultural, educational and traffic center. It has a permanent population of 7,000,000 and a total population of 10,000,000. It covers an area of 1,600 square kilometers.
 
Bangkok’s traffic system is well developed. The Bangkok port is the largest domestic port and it’s famous for rice export. Suvarnabhumi International Airport is the largest airport in Thailand. There are railways and highways in Bangkok leading to different cities in Thailand.
 
Bangkok also has 80% of the country’s higher education institutions and has a high level of education. It is an important Asian city of tourism with lots of historic interests and scenic spots, modern buildings and commercial centers. There are more than 400 Buddhist temples attracting tourists and Bangkok is named “the city of Buddhist temples”.
 
Bangkok is an important international city in Asia. Some international institutions like the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the World Health Organization, International Labour Organization and the World Bank has set their branch offices in Bangkok. Bangkok has hosted the Asian Games for four times which is the highest record.
 
In November, 2009, Bangkok and Guangzhou became sister cities.
